Queensland Welcomes Refunds on Wine & Spirit Bottles

As of November 1st, 2023, Queenslanders can earn 10c on eligible wine and spirit bottles. This initiative supports better recycling and rewards residents for keeping valuable glass out of landfill.

The New Refundable Containers

Glass wine and spirit bottles, ranging in size from 150ml to 3L, are eligible for a refund. This addition helps ensure a broader range of containers are recycled appropriately.

Where to Get Your Refund

For those in the Sandgate area, Sandgate Bottle & Can Exchange is ready to help. Our machines do not require a barcode to process your refund, so you can bring eligible bottles and get paid.

About the 10c Mark

The Queensland Government has provided a grace period until January 2027 for manufacturers to add the 10c refund mark. You can return eligible bottles without the mark and still claim your refund.

Which Bottles to Return

Only glass wine and spirit bottles between 150ml and 3L qualify. Boxed wine and cocktails are not eligible. Always check disposal instructions on other packaging to make sure you are recycling correctly.
